Patients speak

When I was twelve years old I was in a automobile accident and have had lower back pain ever since. Over the years, the pain would come & go, but as time passed the pain got worse & came more frequently until finally it just quit going away. When I first came to Dr. Outten's office I was in constant pain. I could not bend, stand, sit or lay down without intense pain & muscle spasms in my lower back.

When it got so ad that I had to crawl on my hand & knees to clean the house, I decided i couldn't live with the pain anymore. After my first week of treatment I was able to work without intense pain & with out the need to take pain pills to get through the day. After thirteen weeks of treatment I am now able to play with my children, work in the yard, take walks with my husband, & enjoy life again.

Thanks Dr. Outten,

DW

My daughter and I first met Dr. Outten at the Kid's Day America event where he was performing spinal screening on the kid's that attended the event.

My daughter was 5 and we had never considered treating her with chiropractic care. We had always consulted her pediatrician with her health concerns. Before we me Dr. Outten, my daughter was plagued with sinus problems, allergies, and respiratory problems, which were treated with multiple trips to the ER and lots of medications.

We noticed that after about 3 months of care we were able to cut her medications in half. It was at the point that my daughter got her first and only flare-up. I consulted Dr. Outten and he said to just bring her in for a couple of extra adjustments that week. It was hard not to revert back to the medications, but we didn't, we just brought her for two adjustments that week and by the weekend she was back to a normal 5 year old.

It has now been 10 months and she is completely medication free and has only been sick that one time. The best part of having her under chiropractic has been seeing my little girl live her life to the fullest. When people ask me who is my daughters doctor is I tell them Dr. Outten.

Sincerely, CM

In February of 2002, I began suffering with migraine headaches. Over the next year, I endured x-rays, cat scans, MRI's, and several hospitalizations. Although the I received excellent medical care, no one was ever able to give me a clear diagnosis to the cause of my headaches. I tried dozens of medications--Beta Blockers, anti-seizure drugs, DHE, anti-depressants, NSAIDs, steroids, magnesium infusions--some with side effects worse than the headaches themselves. Although several of these would provide temporary relief, none provided lasting results.

I missed weeks of school and was constantly playing catch-up. In addition, I would have to miss many social events because I felt so bad. I never knew when a headache was going to strike and how bad it was going to be if it did. (My first headache had lasted 8 weeks!!!) Whenever we traveled, we carried an arsenal of medications just in case. I lived in fear of the words "My head hurts".

After another hospitalization in March of 2003 provided no relief, I decided to give chiropractic care a try. Several people had told us they received relief from their migraines with chiropractic care. We chose Dr. Outten on the recommendation of my friends. I was especially drawn to his pediatric training and experience.

I was beyond pleased with the results of my chiropractic care. First, Dr. Outten was able to pinpoint the cause of my headaches. After more than a year of getting no answers, it was a relief to have that answer. Then Dr. Outten began to work with me to correct the problem. He has let me know what to expect with the adjustments and developed a trust with me.

I am glad to say that I am mostly headache-free these days. But more importantly, I am also medication-free. When I began seeing Dr. Outten, I was taking four different prescription medications on a daily basis and another "as needed" for pain management. Today, I am off all the medications and haven't needed pain medication in weeks. I don't fear those headaches anymore because we know Dr. Outten is only a phone call away. I am back being a "normal" teenager (if there is such a thing) and am able to enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

Many thanks to Dr. Outten and his staff for making our chiropractic care such a success story! AG

I have had vertigo since 1961. The medical doctor prescribed the drug antivert. This medication mad me drowsy but did not help the dizziness. He told me " change positions slowly, Don't turn your head quickly. Be careful when you bend over you may fall." Upon my rising in the morning, I would have to sit on the side of the bed for several seconds or minutes waiting for everything to stop spinning before leaving the bed.

Last October, I had a bad catch in my back. I had seen Dr. Outten's advertisement on the internet so I made an appointment to see if he could help my back. He did get my back felling better. Much to my amazement, after the first adjustment to my back and neck my vertigo was gone.

I can turn my head ( fast or slow) to see where I am backing my car. Before Dr. Outten stared adjusting me I was in constant pain after a few hours at work. Now my shoulders are free of pain.

Having my spine in alignment has cleared my sinus headaches also.

I totally recommend chiropractic care.

I started seeing Dr. Outten almost six years ago while I was five months pregnant with my second child and experiencing sciatica and neck pain.   My family was new to the area and Dr. Outten was recommended to me by a few friends and neighbors.  I would go to his office on a weekly basis with my 2 ½ year old daughter and his staff would keep her occupied while I received therapy and was adjusted.   Not only did Dr. Outten treat my pain, he provided me with exercises and nutritional information to help prevent it from getting worse and to help my body hold the adjustments.   Those weekly visits helped me have a more enjoyable and less painful pregnancy.

Over the years Dr. Outten and his staff have educated me about all the benefits of chiropractic care in children.  I was a little uncertain in the beginning but now a strong advocate of having children adjusted. My oldest daughter was adjusted at the age of 3, my middle child at 11 months and my youngest at the age of 6 weeks old.  My three children now ages 8, 5 and 2, all love being “twisted into a pretzel” as Dr. Outten tells them and look forward to their turn.  On the days that it is my turn, Dr. Outten’s staff continues to look after them; my son loves the Legos and the lollipops that Mrs. Lisa shares with him.

Dr. Outten and his staff have always been very flexible with me as my schedule changes, they are always cheerful and welcoming and fantastic with my family.  Dr. Outten has treated me through two pregnancies, back and neck issues as well as a recent shoulder issue.  Thank you Dr. Outten for all you do to help me keep me “aligned.”

I first visited a chiropractor in my teens when I had twisted my back playing sports.  It was that first experience where I responded quickly to chiropractic adjustment that established my faith in chiropractic care.   It was years later in my late 20’s that I next needed care as a result of wrenching my back splitting firewood.  I did not heal quite so quickly after that episode.  Age does make a difference!  From the x-rays at the time I learned I have a slight curvature of the spine and my neck is far too straight vs. having the ideal curvature God designed us to have.   Over weeks of regular adjustment I regained my motion and was pain-free once again.  I continued regular maintenance for several months but as I suspect is typical, I “fell off the wagon” at some point since so long as we “feel good” we rationalize all is well.  I admit that over the ongoing 30+ years I repeated that cycle several times.  Now I hope I have learned.   When I recently woke up with an extremely painful neck, and it not getting better during the day, I tried to call my previous chiropractor only to learn he has limited hours in his semi-retirement.  Fortunately, my wife has been a patient of Dr. Outten for several years and was able to get me an appointment the next morning.  The normal exams were impressive from a couple of perspectives.  The technology has progressed tremendously since my earliest chiropractic experience.  I was able to see the areas of inflammation clearly on the Static EMG and Rolling Thermal scans.  I just completed my third re-exam and the progress is obvious from the graphical analysis.  It really does reinforce your sense of improvement.  The treatments have also progressed from just the rolling machine and adjustment table; the electrical stimulation and “impact fork” (my terminology) coupled with the traditional adjustments are a significant enhancement.

It has now been 2 months of continued improvement and I am virtually pain-free once again.  I still have spinal curvature and lack of neck curvature and these past 50+ years have added arthritis here and there.  What I have learned is at any instant a twist, a slip, or just laying in bed the wrong way can cause an immediate problem.  I am also convinced the best defense is to maintain continued chiropractic care coupled with appropriate exercises to strengthen the muscular support system to help the skeletal structure perform its job.

I want to express my gratitude to Dr. Outten and his staff for the care and treatments they have provided.

Several months ago my back was in excruciating pain to the point that I needed help.  I could not do my chores, sit, walk, stand, lay down, never the less, “work”.  I knew then I needed chiropractic assistance.  Chiropractic care was not new to me to at all so I was fully aware of its importance to the health and well being of my body.

My first visit with a chiropractor was 23 years ago when I was carrying my 2nd child.  I was suffering with pressure on my spine causing pain in my lower back and also triggering migraine headaches.  Unfortunately the doctors who treated me up to 2 years ago were no longer in practice.  One day I was speaking to a church member who told me to go see her doctor.  She saw the agonizing pain I was going thru so I called Dr. Outten’s office.  The person on the other end of the phone was Dr. Joy, a very pleasant young man.  He was able to work me in that next day.  It was a blessing in disguise.  The next day I set out to find my way to Dr. Outten’s office and eventually got lost.  I called the office to let the staff know we were lost and needed some direction.  Well, this pleasant voice answered the phone and guided me into the office.  The voice on the other end was Debbie, the receptionist, who was then and is now so warm and charming.  We appreciate the care and kindness shown on this office among staff and doctors.

Oh yes, back to my story.  After having met and consulted with Dr. Outten, a plan was put in place to get me on the road to recovery.  I tell you when I walked into this office, the pain was a 10, but since then it has been reduced to a 0!  I am presently on a maintenance program and I am doing extremely well.  One of the things that I like about Dr. Outten’s care is that he keeps us up to date with optimal health information through his weekly newsletters.  Dr. Outten is interested in the scientific research and also in traditional, natural remedies for his patients.  Since I have been coming in, my husband has started as well.  I brought him to a health workshop the office provides which was fantastic.  Dr. Outten is very concerned, serious, thorough, kind and gentle with his patients.  I have recommended his services to several friends.  You need to come visit the Outten Chiropractic Team because they are GREAT!

I first noticed that my shoulders were my weak spot about 12 years ago. Since then I have been limiting myself and dealing with intermittent pain on a daily basis. About two years ago the pain on my right shoulder intensified, it was stronger and more frequent; I had difficulty performing common and seemingly simple tasks at work and in my daily life. I went to see an orthopedist, diagnostic tests were normal, medications did not work and the pain kept getting worse. I was desperate, so decided to have exploratory arthroscopic surgery to hopefully find out what the problem was and to get it fixed once and for all.

Recovery after surgery was painful and slow. The pain never got better than before surgery, my range of motion was very limited. A few months after surgery the pain suddenly got much worse, it was the worse pain I had ever felt. I was not able to sleep, my right arm just hung by my side like a fixture. After a few months after living in such pain and immobility I developed frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis). Everywhere I read about this condition, it said that it mostly affected diabetic women over fifty, which was not my case, so I apparently just had bad luck.

I sought opinions from other orthopedists, they seemed in a hurry and not personable and they just made my frustrations grow. That’s when I decided to try different treatment modalities and a friend suggested Outten Chiropractic. After just a few treatments I noticed my range of motion highly improved, and the pain was also getting better every day. In addition to the treatments I had at the office, Dr. Outten also suggested some exercises for me to do at home. Now my pain and mobility are much improved and I am receiving maintenance chiropractic care and continuing my exercises at home.  I am very grateful for the excellent care and friendliness consistently provided by Outten Chiropractic.

I have been receiving chiropractic care for the past 13 years.  During this time I have seen only 2 chiropractors.  Before coming to Outten Chiropractic, I had been receiving adjustments on and off to obtain relief from backaches or headaches.  About 3 years ago I decided it was time to be consistent with chiropractic healthcare and started to go for an appointment once a month.  My headaches and backaches seem to be related to my inconsistent ventures into hard labor landscaping, carpentry and masonry projects.  Of course I was also getting older and definitely not healing as quickly from injuries and dealing with much more muscle soreness for longer periods of time.  When I moved to Cary I wanted to continue my chiropractic care and was referred by a good friend to Dr. Outten’s office.  She had nothing but wonderful things to say about the office and the state of the art equipment for diagnosing and treating patients.  I made an appointment and after thorough evaluation received recommendation for treatments once every 2 weeks combined with muscle strengthening exercises around the weak areas of my back and shoulders.  I now have been receiving care for almost one year.

Everything seemed to be going well for me when I broke my ankle and underwent surgery.  Post operatively I needed to use crutches and stay completely off my ankle for 6 weeks.  This put my spine and shoulder muscles into a challenging situation that resulted in a lot more muscle soreness and disalignment of my back, neck and shoulders.  Dr. Outten then changed my visits to 1 time a week.  This whole experience got me thinking about my health in general and the need to change my lifestyle and really adopt the chiropractic vision of total health.  After consulting with Dr. Outten I am now getting involved in health lifestyle changes that will benefit me and help me live a more fit life.

Dr. Outten, Lisa, Dr. Joy and Briana and all of the other staff have been super friendly and fun to be around.  I have learned much from them and have been presented with many practical and educational opportunities to understand and benefit from the chiropractic vision of health.

I have suffered with back problems for many years.  Upper back, lower back, arthritis, degenerative discs, scoliosis, I have it all.  Periodically my back would go “out” and I would be debilitated and in pain for long periods of time, sometimes over a year.  A couple of months ago my back went out when I was on vacation.  I knew it was bad and easily one of the worst.  I could barely walk, and every position was uncomfortable and painful.  Even on vacation I knew I had to do something, anything.  I sought out some chiropractic/massage therapy help, which basically make an intolerable problem bearable.  When I came back from vacation I knew I had to do something more than I was already doing, since I was not getting better.  I asked around at work and was highly recommended to Outten Chiropractic by a current patient.

I checked out things thoroughly before I went.  The Pro-Adjuster technique seemed like a rational, more measured and precise approach than the usual slam and jam technique that I had come to associate chiropractic care with.  Even before I tried it, it made sense to me.  I made my appointment and following a thorough evaluation, which identified the areas I knew had been problematic for me, I began treatment.

There was no miracle cure, no silver bullet, no miracles, but instead I found a multipronged attack on my problem.  Shoe orthotics helped correct my stance, electrical stimulation and treatment with the Pro-Adjuster helped correct by alignment.  Treatment on the best high tech treatment table I had ever been on, and I have been on quite a few, adjusted problematic vertebrae.  All the while we worked on corrections to posture and position.  I had good days and awful days, but the progress week by week was always positive.  I began to religiously work therapeutic exercises that Dr. Outten suggested.  I pay my son to the do the exercises on a daily basis to keep me motivated.  Now he reminds me to do our “Power Centering” and his video game collection grows and I keep getting better, not suddenly but consistently.  Now, several months after beginning treatment the pain and discomfort I had felt is rare and getting rarer.

I know that I am better off now, but that I will have to work to keep it that way.  I accept that, and want to thank Dr. Outten and his wonderful staff for assisting me in getting out of the awful situation I was in.  I look forward to their continuing help in maintaining my health and freedom from pain.  I know I still have a way to go, but I have come far and intend to continue on the same path, it would be silly to do otherwise.  As they say you need to dance with the one who brought you.

Thanks to all!

A terrible crippling pain in my left hip brought me to Dr. Outten almost 9 years ago. I was brand new to NC, had some background in chiropractic, but had no idea who to go to about my pain.
A friend of mine suggested chiropractic care when she saw the difficulty I had getting in and out of my car. Fortunately she recommended Dr. Outten. I knew that I had done the right thing when I was able to move again after my first visit. It was the beginning of an amazing recovery and personal transformation.

Presently I am very grateful for that recommendation and the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship. I always feel better healed, soothed and educated after a visit to Dr. Outten. The handout feature is another great feature of visiting his office and I have learned a great deal from these brochures.

My 2 youngest children, still at home, are also large fans of Dr. Outten. There are frequent sports injuries or growing pains that are promptly addressed by a visit. These 2 are always much better after a visit and the application of chiropractic care.
I’m sure that you can tell that I’m a big fan of Dr. Outten, but I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge 2 very supportive members of Dr. Outten’s team. Dr. Joy and Debbie have always made me laugh and smile and I look forward to their warm hospitality when I visit. I’d like to say that they contribute a little additional spring in my sometimes wobbly step.

I first visited Dr. Outten at the behest of my wife. I had had a painful back episode about a year before, but had bounced back and hadn't had any more major trouble. I figured that as long as I wasn't having any major symptoms, why bother seeking any further treatment?

Upon my initial exam, Dr. Outten showed me a number of underlying issues with my spine that could lead to further pain and chronic discomfort. He even found that one leg was an inch longer than the other, because my hips were out of balance. He also recommended custom shoe insoles. After a few visits, I found that I was seeing improvement with issues that I never really thought about - like soreness from sitting too long at my desk or in the car.

I always believed that preventative care was a better approach to health than addressing problems after they arise - now I'm practicing what I preach. I visit Dr. Outten once a month, and I always appreciate that he and his staff are friendly, courteous, and get me in, out and on my way.

I moved to Cary when my son was 2 months old around the same time I started suffering from severe pain in both of my wrists.  I tried every kind of brace I could find but couldn’t seem to isolate the movement enough for them to heal.  This also made it very difficult for me to function with a newborn considering all of the baggage, strollers and car seat lifting I had to do in order to get out of the house!

I visited my general care practitioner multiple times but always left without a diagnosis or working treatment.  I was put on a regimen of ibuprofen and told to stop the motions that were aggravating my condition-I was even tested for rheumatoid arthritis.  I was obviously getting very frustrated which added to the already challenging transitions going on in my life.

I met Dr. Outten in a boot camp class we share at our gym.  He was treating our trainer at the time and I overheard them talking about his philosophy of treatment and approach to overall health and wellness.  I had been taking the class for almost 6 months and didn’t know about Dr. Outten’s practice.  That day I approached him with my problem and challenged him to help me.  After just 4 sessions the pain in my wrists had almost completely gone away.  I’m now completely pain free and as my son grows older, I’m lifting even more weight with my wrists than ever before.

I can’t say enough how lucky I feel to have found Dr. Outten.  I even bring in my 18-month-old son to see him now to minimize ear infections and to keep him generally more healthy.

I have always been really active in sports but the spring of 2011 started a marathon of back to back baseball practices and football conditioning throughout the summer.  By the fall of 2011, I was in both my school’s football team and a baseball travel team.  Everything was going great until I did something, tackled someone the wrong way or swung the bat too hard.  We don’t know exactly it was, but I was in pain.  I could no longer run, swing a bat, or certainly not play football.   My primary doctor said I had “strained” my back, but I should be fine in a week.  After 5 weeks of sitting on the sidelines for both my teams, and still in pain, my parents took me to see Dr. Outten.

My Dad had been seeing Dr. Outten for the past year and had seen a big improvement with his back pain.  He used to be able to help out with my baseball team occasionally, but now he is the coach and is able to routinely pitch batting practice to the team.

My first visit to Dr. Outten was unscheduled because we were desperate for answers since I was not getting any better.  Dr. Outten and his staff were very accommodating and fit me in on a Friday morning.    They spent over an hour with me (unscheduled) and I walked out of there feeling so much better than I had in weeks!   Dr. Outten had even found problems I didn’t even know I had.

After only two months, I am back in the games.  I am feeling so much better and so glad I went to Dr. Outten.    Everybody in the office is so nice and knows me by name when I walk in.   Ms. Lisa even had Halloween goodies to share with everybody, and I love a good cupcake!  With my very busy school and practice schedule (and my parents’ schedule) they have always made time to see me.   I would always recommend Dr. Outten and his staff because they care very much and have proven results.

Sincerely,

Cam L.
